Donor Spotlight: Walmart

Although Walmart tops the list when it comes to companies that donate to charity, you may not find much success when it comes to soliciting online for an in-kind donation. Instead, Walmart focuses their efforts on Community Grants between $250 and $2500. To qualify, applicants must apply online using the Walmart donation request form. Potential grantees should be nonprofit organization with programs that benefit communities within the service area of the Walmart store, Sam’s Club or Logistics facility from which they are requesting funds.

Walmart focuses on 4 main service areas as recipients for their grants: Hunger Relief & Healthy Eating, Sustainability, Women’s Economic Empowerment, and Career Opportunity.  Organizations that do not serve these needs may be considered, but only after the others have first been considered. walmart gift card

That being said, when I called a local store to inquire about an in-kind donation, I was told they had a form that I could fill out and a manager would evaluate it on a case by case basis. I have also had success with doing this at Sam’s Club and received a gift card as a donation. So my advice for securing a Walmart donation is to hit the pavement and stop in to your local store with a solicitation letter in hand. And don’t forget those follow-up phone calls!
