Donor Spotlight: Best Buy

best-buy_storeIn recent years, BestBuy has gotten away from product donations and has focused its giving on fulfilling grants to organizations who promote technological literacy. So if you are an organization who promotes that, especially when it comes to teens, you should definitely check out this page (https://corporate.bestbuy.com/community-grants-page/).

If you are an organization that doesn’t support the technological literacy cause specifically, have no fear! You may still be able to have your BestBuy Donation Request fulfilled… it’ll just take a little more work!

As was the case with Walmart, you’ll have to take your BestBuy Donation Request Form into your nearest store to make your submission. The application isn’t a hard one, but it is thorough, and it can be found at the bottom of this post.

BestBuy focuses its charitable contributions on organizations that serve youth. They support programs that offer youth leadership and educational opportunities to develop the skills necessary for them to become successful adults. But even given that, I can tell you right off the bat that BestBuy won’t give to the following organizations:

Non 501c3 organizations
Lobbying organizations
Individuals or families
Religious, fraternal, labor or veterans groups
Private foundations
Political groups
For-profit (including fundraisers on behalf of nonprofits)

So if you find yourself in one of those categories don’t waste your time, instead just move on to companies that you know are supportive of your cause. If you need help finding those companies, register at UltimateDonations.org and we’ll send you a customized list of companies that are most likely to give to your organization.

If you feel that your organization qualifies for the grant, you can apply for it here, during the month of June.

As always, best of luck in your fundraising endeavors.
