6 Ways Pinterest Can Benefit Your Organization

Just about everyone knows about Pinterest, but have you ever considered what it could do to help out your organization?

What is Pinterest?UltimateDonations.org: 6 Ways Pinterest Can Benefit Your Organization

Pinterest is basically an online, virtual inspiration board or scrapbook that you add to while surfing the internet. According to the website, “Pinterest is a virtual pinboard. Pinterest allows you to organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. You can browse pinboards created by other people to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.”

The estimated number Pinterest users in the US is expected to reach 47.1 million by the end of 2015, with the main demographic users being women between the ages of 25 and 44 (ExpandedRamblings).

How does Pinterest work?

While surfing the internet, you build a collage of images by pinning them to your Pinterest board. There are three easy ways to do this: Use the Pinterest “Pin It” bookmarklet while surfing the web, upload your own images, or repin other user’s images to your Pinterest boards that you’ve created and organized. For example, UltimateDonations.org has created the following Pinterest boards: Student Project Ideas, Bountiful Baskets, Tips & Tricks for Fundraising Events, and Volunteer Inspirations to name a few.

6 Ways to Use Pinterest to Benefit Your Organization

  • Use Pinterest to tell stories about your organization by pinning online newspaper articles, blog postings, and causes that your organization has been mentioned in or tied to or pin images and videos about what you do
  • Use Pinterest to collect ideas for upcoming or possible fundraisers
  • Create a board that is focused on your mission area (think “homelessness” or “education in Ohio”)
  • Create a board targeting the solutions to the problem you are working on
  • Create a board full of inspirations– pictures, quotes, articles… anything goes!
  • If you have products that supporters can purchase to further your mission (think t-shirts, bumper stickers, etc.), show them off on a board

3 Ways to Use Pinterest to Benefit Your Fundraising Event

  • Upload photos of raffle prizes or auction items for your upcoming event to help get people excited
  • Create a wish list comprised of everything that you would like to see donated or bought for your big fundraising event
  • If your event has a theme, create a board that gives people ideas of what to wear to your event
